February Meeting in Review
Deutscher Verein Tours Dubois County Museum
The Deutscher Verein held its February meeting at the Dubois County Museum Thursday, February 17, 2005, with Janet and Dave Kluemper serving as hosts for the evening. After a short business meeting conducted by President Bob Dilger, members were free to view the many fantastic displays of our history, such as a log home, farm machinery, furniture and appliances, as well as newspapers and photographs, veteran’s room and other memorabilia. Members could also visit the gift shop. The club made a monetary donation to the museum for use of the meeting room and as an expression of support for the museum.
During the business meeting, it was mentioned that Relay for Life Team #69 would have a Benefit Dance and Auction in memory of Tom Hulsman at the Jasper Moose Lodge on Saturday February 26, 2005, from 7 PM to 11 PM. Tickets are on sale for $10 and can be obtained by contacting Rita Corn or Jan Hulsman.
Members were also informed that the next meeting is scheduled on March 17th at the VFW on N. Newton St. The program will be by Father John Boeglin and Ms. Cheri Hartley, the local International Exchange Coordinator for the Education Foundation for Foreign Studies. Additionally, Mr. Ron Flick will provide an update on the rebuilding of the Eckert Mill project.
Betty Kempf and Sharon Dilger won attendance prizes. Dean Leininger won the special prize.

March Deutscher Verein Meeting
We will have some bean soup to sample this month from Linus Lechner, Bob Fleck, and John Wibbels. This was a real popular item last year...and these guys have graciously agreed to a repeat performance! The Club will provide hot dogs, sauer kraut, and drinks. Club members are invited to bring a dessert to share.
The program will begin with Fr. John Boeglin introducing Ms. Cheri Hartley, representative of the Education Foundation for Foreign Studies. As the local International Exchange Coordinator for several local High Schools, she has successfully placed 14 Foreign Exchange Students for this school year in our local high schools. Ten of these students hail from various locations in Germany. Several of these students will attend to provide additional information.
Following this presentation, Mr. Ron Flick will speak on the current status of the Eckert Mill project. This rebuilding project is slated to begin construction later this Spring and promises to be a quite interesting operation!
